This tip applies to ELAN, ASUS, and Synaptics touchpad models. To avoid accidentally engaging the trackpad while typing, the Synaptics control software allows the user to disable/enable the trackpad by double tapping. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section, and then right-click on your touchpad > Properties:Ĭlick Roll Back Driver and follow the onscreen procedure to return to your previously installed driver: Right-click on Start to display the Power User menu, and then select the Device manager. In certain cases, these drivers may not compatible with your current hardware.

Windows 10 Installed an Incompatible Driverĭuring the upgrade process, Windows 10 will install new drivers on your system. If so, simply select Enable to get your touchpad working again:Ĭlick Apply > OK to exit. This box will show you whether your touchpad has been disabled. Go to Mouse & Touchpad > Related Settings, and click Additional mouse options to open the Mouse Properties dialog box. If the problem persists, click Start > Settings > Devices. Check to see if this keyboard shortcut is enabled. On some laptop models, there exists a specific switch or Fn + function key combo ( F3, F5, F6…) to toggle the trackpad on and off.
